Other Lands Have Dreams: From Baghdad to Pekin Prison by Kathy Kelly.

Kathy Kelly is a prominent peace activist based in Chicago, IL. In this book, she talks about her role in advocating against the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and her efforts in protecting my school, the Music and Ballet School of Baghdad. I was 11 years old when my father told me about her efforts, and after all those years we got to meet in 2019. Never met someone as humble and humane as Kathy!

Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

This is a fierce book highlighting the different outrageous abuses and continued mistreatment women face worldwide. The authors explores honor killing, prostitution, childbirth morality rates, sex trafficking, and unequal access to education and financial success. As the authors put it, “the oppression of women is our greatest moral challenge,” and it is our duty to together ensure women are no longer mistreated and abused everywhere around the world.
